How to Care for your Peonies

Herbaceous and Intersectional Peonies

Planting Depth
Remember to plant your peony with the crown no more than 2” (5cm) below the surface; if you bury your peony it will not flower!

Position
Plant your peony in full sun – some varieties will do well in shade, but generally the more sun the better.

Soil
Plant your peony in any fertile, free-draining soil – peonies will not tolerate sitting in water in the winter!

Feeding
If you have reasonable soil, your peony will not generally require regular feeding. Feed once in the Spring using our Professional Peony Fertiliser (Spring) and once in late Summer using our Professional Peony Fertiliser (Autumn).

Care
Peonies can last for decades and are low maintenance plants. When your peony dies down in the Autumn, cut back to the ground and remove the dead leaves. Some varieties will require some support and we recommend our Peony Plant Support.
